ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: The Sarvodya Collective

Project Description

In India it is estimated that more than 1 in 50 people have an Intellectual & Developmental Disability (IDD). This is a disability that originates before age 22 and affects intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour. Why should you care about this? Because to make a true inclusive society it is our duty to amplify issues that have been structurally pushed to the margins.

The Sarvodya Collective is a Sec 8 non-profit working on three areas of strategic focus: Awareness on IDD to cultivate a more inclusive society, Awareness resources to bolster the ecosystem and Enabling tools / solutions to meet the needs of PwIDD and caregiver.

Through 2022, we are developing 'Inclusive Duniya’ ground up as the flagship awareness initiative on IDD. This includes the following -

  1. Continuing to publish our insta comic Naina’s Inclusive Duniya
  2. Inclusive Duniya Circles in schools - fun interactive sessions delivered in schools and communities to inform pre-teens and teens on intellectual disabilities and help them discover ways in which they personally can be a friend and an ally
  3. Buddy Circles - mixer events and one-on-one pairings of neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals to cultivate friendship and reduce social isolation

We are looking for enthusiastic, socially minded volunteers to help contribute to this movement towards cultivating inclusion and equity for persons of all abilities by raising awareness on Intellectual and Developmental Disability by being our social media volunteers.

Key Responsibility

Through all our programmes and volunteer engagement, we are first and foremost looking to cultivate allyship for the cause. Allyship can take numerous forms as outlined here https://sarvodya.org/ally/

In this role, we are looking for volunteers to help raise awareness about IDD, help connect to different people online as well as creating an offline engagement and make people allies. This would entail the following -

  1. Repost our stories as stories on your Instagram and Facebook accounts all through the month of August.
  2. Increase the traffic and engagement on our social media handles.
  3. Creating allyship within your community of friends and followers - we will run an information session to help prepare for that

Skills and Experience required

  1. Active accounts on Instagram and Facebook
  2. Proficient in Social Media Targeting and Communication
  3. Skills in written and verbal communication

LOCATION: PAN INDIA - WORK FROM HOME (WFH)

TIME COMMITMENT: 1-2 HOURS PER WEEK
