As Host, you’ll meet and greet Year 6 primary school classes and provide a brief introductory
talk. After putting the children into their groups, you’ll remain with the teachers/parent helpers
whilst the children take their tour.
You’ll run through a range of set tasks which includes helping the teachers/parent helpers to
answer the (practise) emergency 999 phone calls being made by the children.
Once the tour is finished, you’ll provide a closing talk and escort everyone off-site, happy in
the knowledge that the children are leaving Lifeskills knowing how to live much safer,
healthier, more independent lives.
We provide full training, at your own pace. Each volunteering session lasts 2 1/2 hours and
you’re free to volunteer as often as you wish (Monday - Friday during term time). This is a
unique and hugely rewarding role working for a friendly, welcoming charity. You’ll meet lots of
lovely people and receive plenty of support. You’ll gain a great deal of satisfaction and feel
proud to have played a part in providing such a fond, memorable experience.

Mission Statement
To maintain Lifeskills - Learning for Living as a Centre of Excellence dedicated to improving the safety and wellbeing of the community. The Centre aims to reduce unintentional injury and to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle by influencing attitudes and changing behaviour.
Description
Since January 2000, Lifeskills has provided safety education through a range of different programmes, including our Year 6 Children’s Programme.
Each year, schools are invited to bring their Year 6 pupils (age 10/11) for a guided tour around the safety centre, which is modelled as a realistic village. During the tour, children are presented with hazardous scenarios in a range of different settings, including a road, beach, dark alleyway, shop, homes, and a railway platform.
Supported by the Programme Co-ordinator, each session is covered by a volunteer Host
and up to 15 volunteer Child Safety Tour Guides.
A highlight in the school calendar, Lifeskills provides an exciting, interactive, and memorable experience. We provide a safe environment, in which children learn about life's common dangers, and the education we provide supports the 'Keeping Safe’ elements of the Personal, Health, Social, Economic curriculum (PHSE).
