Mission Statement
To cultivate, enrich and advocate for African-American cultural stability, vibrancy, and economic vitality in San Francisco’s Bayview African American Arts & Cultural District and Programming areas.
Description
The SF African American Arts and Cultural District has a mission to advocate for our young people and with the voice of the community we intend on supporting our local and active community based organizations to insure that systems are in place to continue the enrichment and development through the arts, with guidance from the Human Rights Commission.
Due to decades of systemic racism African Americans have historically fell behind in high school graduation rates, and college and secondary degrees in comparison to other ethic groups in the city of San Francisco. With a community lead strategy, and advocacy by the Mayor's office of community development the African American Arts and Cultural District will create programs to make sure our community has the resources needed to increase graduation rates across all disciplines. With guidance from the Human Rights Commission, these programs will lay the foundation for our community’s leaders of tomorrow to further the work started by our current administration.
