Who is Phamaly Theatre Company? Phamaly Theatre Company is the premiere disability-affirmative theatre organization in the country. Since 1989, Phamaly has been a home for theatre artists with disabilities and leads the field in accessible theatre practices. Phamaly works from the core values of adaptation and professionalism, with an emphasis on authenticity, innovation, and humor. Phamaly strives to model a theatre process for future generations where inclusivity, equity, accessibility, and creativity go hand-in-hand.

Spring Awakening Synopsis:
Winner of eight Tony Awards (including best musical), Spring Awakening is an alternative rock musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s provocative 1891 play. In late nineteenth century Germany, a group of schoolchildren explore their own sexual identities within a brutal and suppressive society. Unable to break through their parents’ and teachers’ infantilization, these students set out to explore what it means to love and connect. Part realism painting and part My Chemical Romance concert, this musical gives a powerful voice to those who have traditionally been silenced and provides a stark warning for those who look to strip away autonomy.

Content Warnings:
Age Recommendation: 16+
Advisories: Adult content & humor, adult language, sexual situations, partial nudity, abortion, and suicide.

What does an Usher Volunteer do? Be the face of Phamaly when audiences visit the theatre. Volunteer ushers guide audiences to their seats, share accessibility resources, provide program information, and make guests feel welcome at Phamaly Theatre Company performances. Volunteer ushers are offered the opportunity to watch the show, but are not required to stay for the entire performance.

Important Information: Volunteers must be 18+. All volunteer ushers are required to have completed a background check and agree to Phamaly's COVID-19 policies (masks are required inside the building). About PHAMALY THEATRE COMPANY

Location:

3532 FRANKLIN STREET SUITE T2, DENVER, CO 80205, US

Mission Statement

Phamaly Theatre Company's mission is to be a creative home for theatre artists with disabilities; to model a disability-affirmative theatrical process; and to upend conventional narratives by transforming individuals, audiences, and the world.

Description

About the Company: Then

In 1989, PHAMALy (Physically Handicapped Amateur Musical Actors League) was founded by five students from the Boettcher School in Denver, all living with disabilities, who had grown frustrated with the lack of theatrical opportunities for people living with disabilities. In 1990 PHAMALy produced its first show - Guys and Dolls.

PHAMALy's founders were ahead of their time in building an inclusive organization that directly served disenfranchised individuals with disabilities from all racial, ethnic, gender, and class identities. Throughout its history, Phamaly has maintained its dedication to this principle of inclusion while creating innovative reinventions of established works.

About the Company: Now

Today, the organization has changed its name to Phamaly Theatre Company (PTC), but its dedication to exclusively featuring actors with disabilities continues. At every performance, you will see actors with all nature of disabilities: physical, cognitive, intellectual, and emotional. PTC gives actors a supportive space to explore and develop their craft, empowers artists within their disability identity, educates the community about access and inclusion, and entertains audiences with high-quality, award-winning theatre.
