ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Sorting clothing and household items that have been donated.
  2. Checking that clothing is in good order -- clean and can be used. If not, put into bins going to other organizations.
  3. Check that household items are in good order. If things need lightbulbs, batteries, etc., replace. If can't be used, put into recycle bins.

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

Common sense to decide if something is good or not and basic wrapping to prepare for shop.

Those in need of clothing and household items who come into Common Threads Closet.

Keeps Common Threads stocked for those coming in for needed items.

What specific skills will the volunteer need?

Can stand or sit; may need to walk a few steps. Very little lifting unless volunteer wants to.

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
