Volunteer Swimming Instructors Needed!

ETIV do Brasil is partnering with SwimTayka to offer swimming lessons to low income children living on the coast of Bahia, Brazil in a beautiful fishing and surfing town known as Itacare. We are looking for 3 or 4 volunteers that can support our lead swim teacher and help him or her in the pool with the daily swimming lessons. This position is seasonal and will only be taking place for 3 months (from September through November of 2023). Meanwhile, this is the only position we offer where volunteers can come for as little as 2 weeks to participate.

Timetable

Currently, we are looking for volunteers that can volunteer with us to teach swimming lessons during the months of September, October and November of 2023. Volunteers will be allowed to stay for as little as 2 or 3 weeks, although we highly recommend that volunteers come for at least a month if not the full two months that the project will take place. Time flies by very quickly here, and those that stay longer are often able to learn the language better, build much stronger relationship with the children and the community and have a stronger impact on our community and the NGO.

Main Responsibilities:

• To support our swimming program, including the kids and the community participating in the program and the lead swim teacher and the other volunteers and interns that are working in the program.
• To be ready to get in the pool with the kids as necessary and to serve as an extra lifeguard when our lead swimteacher is in the pool with the kids.
• To take attendance and document outcomes including successes, challenges and best practices for every class.
• To support all of the planning and logisitics of the program
• To support the planning and implementation of field trips, that allow the children to practice their swimming in open waters towards the end of the swimming lessons.

Requirements:

• Volunteers must work at least 20 hours per week
• Basic Portuguese
• Minimum 2 weeks time commitment
• Ability to swim
• Certification in CPR and lifeguard training preferred

Most interns can receive university credit while interning with our NGO and some are even able to receive a University stipend or grant to help cover their expenses. We can offer ongoing support and supervision and can help organize taxi pickups, local accommodations and even Capoeira or Portuguese classes. All volunteers and interns will also receive our Pre-Departure Powerpoint, and Introduction to the NGO, a tour of Itacare and life insurance during their internship at the NGO.
