Recruiting Organization: Children's Future International

Children’s Future International (CFI) is a small, dynamic non-profit organization {501(c)(3)

status} focused on supporting approximately 400 students in Battambang, Cambodia, with

cutting edge social work and educational services, so that they can grow to be the country’s

next generation of leaders. You can find out more at our website:

Board members are expected to guarantee Children’s Future International’s ability to serve its

beneficiaries by establishing direction, ensuring adequate resources and providing oversight.

Board members are currently based in the USA and Europe, online participation is therefore

welcomed. Board positions are volunteer (unpaid).


CFI is currently seeking additional Board members. The CFI board is legally and ethically

responsible for the operation of the organization. To that end, it:

1. Strategizes how CFI will carry out its mission through long- and short-term planning

2. Thinks deeply and asks searching and generative questions to make sure that CFI is

doing the right work, in the right way, for the right reasons to get the best impact for

children and their family.

3. Plans and adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight (around $400,000 per

fiscal year)

4. Recruits, orients, and develops board members

5. Hires, challenges, supports, monitors and evaluates the performance of the Executive

Director (based in Cambodia)

6. Evaluates performance of the organization in achieving its mission

7. Supports CFI in fundraising to achieve its financial goals


Board Member Responsibilities:

Governance

● Remain informed of Children’s Future International’s mission, programs and external

factors that may affect the organization

● Assess Children’s Future International’s direction annually in a strategic planning

process that evaluates the organization’s purpose, mission, programs and overall

effectiveness

● Assist in the selection, support, and supervision of the Executive Director

● Ensure that Children’s Future International adequately handles all liability and financial

risks

● Make sure that all aspects of Children’s Future International operate within the full

extent of the law

● Periodically review Children’s Future International’s operating policies and procedures

to ensure management is following board policies


Communications

● Serve as an ambassador of Children’s Future International to the public and act as a

spokesperson

● Invite others to support the organization


Fiscal

● Monitor the financial health of Children’s Future International, including level of

reserves and the availability of cash to guarantee ongoing operations

● Oversee Children’s Future International’s annual budgeting process, year-end audited

financial statements and monthly expenditures

● Make an annual financial contribution in an amount that is personally meaningful

● Support fundraising efforts (finding opportunities, helping put on events, promotion,

etc.)


Other

● Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of quarterly board meetings and

monthly committee meetings - approx. 2 hours each, held virtually

● Coach Cambodian staff for professional development in relevant area to you as able

● Help find opportunities for Cambodian students and staff to improve their knowledge

and skills

● Note that your name is publicly available in annual tax returns, state registration, and

on the Children’s Future International website
