Summary:
Career Mentors provide weekly mentoring and support throughout the entire program. Mentors help youth identify career interests and create career plans ie: youth shadow their Mentors in their places of work gaining insider information into the career. Gen Z also prepares youth as productive individuals in the workplace via workshops that focus on building employee skills. Generation Z youth are given opportunities to speak with college admission counselors from their college/s of choice. Youth are also given opportunities to visit college campuses and learn about college life. Additionally coaches provide college counseling and concrete preparations ie: preparation for college interviews, financial aid options, scholarships.

Volunteer will help with:

  • Mentors are responsible for meeting with their Mentee 1x per week via zoom or google meets.
  • Mentors should be comfortable mentoring a student in grade levels 9- 12.
  • Mentors are responsible for assisting mentees understand their assignments in the Gen Z program. Mentors are responsible for setting up goals.
  • Mentors are responsible for assisting mentees in obtaining an internship or volunteer position within their career field.
  • Mentors are responsible for assisting mentees with college, job or internship application processes.
  • Mentors are responsible for maintaining consistent communication with their mentees.
  • Mentors are responsible for documenting their sessions with mentees.
Qualifications and requirement:
  • Age Requirement 21+, High school diploma or equivalent, A current or previous business owner, experience working with high school age youth. Ideal candidate is a business major in their 2nd year. OR
  • Age requirement 21+, experience working with high school youth. Ideal candidate, Bachelor in Psychology or Mental health, third year student is preferred. OR
  • Age requirement 21+, experience working with high school youth. Ideal candidate, Bachelor's in Nursing, Medicine, public Health and any other related field of medicine, third year student is preferred.
  • DOE $135 fingerprinting feeThis Internship role is a core component of the programatic functioning and it's one of the benefits that helps the youth in our Gen Z program become successful within their track course.

Training and supervision provided to Volunteer:
  • Career Mentors will be given one training on the effective practices of mentoring youth.
  • Career Mentors are expected to completed the training twice a year, so the information gained will be clear and fresh. ( Mentors have the opportunity of taking the training by them selves, at their own pace or mentor can take the training with Associate Director ( Katherine Campbell) trainings are approximately one hour.
  • Mentors also have access but its not mandatory to complete the following training *Social Emotional Learning ( 1 hour ) *Deescalating Crisis ( 1 Hour ) *Learning Theories ( 1 Hour) *Youth with Disabilities ( 1 Hour) Theses training listed above have the same options mentors can complete the training at their own pace or with me.
  • Career Mentors will be given a certificate of completion after each training
Developmental opportunities provided to Volunteer:
  • *Social Emotional Learning ( 1 hour ) *Deescalating Crisis ( 1 Hour ) *Learning Theories ( 1 Hour) *Youth with Disabilities ( 1 Hour) * Effective Mentor Training ( 1 Hour )
  • Gain Coaching Skills, Communication, leadership, problem solving skills, and adaptability skills
  • Interns will have weekly supervisions and will have to complete Mentor sessions notes at the end of each sessions, sessions will be tracked through the session notes spread sheet.

I’RAISE Boys & Girls International Corporation is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization in New York City founded in 2012. We have been providing free tutoring, mentoring and coaching services, virtual performance classes, college preparation program, nutrition workshops, and parent education program. As a minority led non-profit organization with leaders that are women of colors, we feel so much pride and we are so proud being able to provide beneficial resources to the children in under-resourced areas in New York City in-person and multiple-states virtually. And we have been successful in providing these services because of our volunteers.
