We are looking for volunteers that can help with general day-to-day tasks in the office. This would include things like: listening to client voicemails and recording them, conducting client intakes, providing resources for folks that we cannot assist, assisting the Program Managers, helping with walk-in clients, and office organization. If you have no office experience but would like to gain some, this is a great place to start.

About Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program

Mission Statement

Our mission statement is to provide and facilitate access to justice in Clark County for low-income individuals and marginalized communities through advocacy and civil legal services.

Description

Established in 1990, our program was created to fill the need for legal assistance for folks in the community that could not afford it. Most people may be aware of the Constitutional right afforded to us that, in criminal matters, "if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you free of charge". This is not the case, however, for people experiencing civil legal issues; which include things like divorce, child custody, evictions, or most domestic violence proceedings (like protection orders). Today, the priority of our program is to ensure equitable access to justice for everyone in our community, regardless of income, race/ethnicity, or gender expression.

We have programs in family law, housing law, domestic violence survivor support, debt defense/bankruptcy, immigration, elder law, lay guardianship, and general law. All of our services are entirely staffed by volunteer attorneys in our community, who provide legal advice only -- our program does not offer full representation. We utilize both attorney volunteers as well as non-attorney or law student volunteers to help with the ins and outs of our programs.
