About ESPERANZA DE GUATEMALA INC

Location:

Mission Statement

Esperanza de Guatemala works to create life-changing opportunities in rural Guatemalan communities. Our tag line is: Building Hope and Relationships. Esperanza de Guatemala values its partnership with the people of Guatemala, and with our partners in our own community. We work together collaboratively, respecting each other’s voices and ideas. We believe more is accomplished together. We learn from each other and as we learn together, we adapt our work for the greater good.

Description

We are located in Cary, NC, though our supporters come from many places in the U.S., especially Cary, Canada, and Guatemala itself. We currently serve the people of Nimasac, Totonicopan, Guatemala, a village in a state in the central, northwest section of the country, where the population is largely Mayan. Guatemala is the poorest country in Central America, and Totonicopan is one of the poorest in that country. Malnutrition, lack of access to clean water, impediments to education, healthcare, and economic development, are only some of the problems. Esperanza's most significant endeavor is our scholarship program. Last year we had our first university graduate, from a community where even going to middle school is unusual, especially for girls. Staff in the US is entirely volunteer! Won't you join us?
