We are looking for kind, caring people to donate their time helping hospice patients. You would visit hospice patients and families in their homes to offer companionship and a listening ear, bring donated gifts, sometimes just to read to them or watch TV with them, or stay with the patient while family members go out for a much-needed break for a few hours. You might also assist patients with legacy projects for their families to keep - recording their stories in an autobiography journal, making thumbprint stones that can be turned in to necklaces or keychains, or doing handprint paintings with the patient and young children in their family, making memories as well as art that they can treasure. Volunteers are vital to the mission of Interim Hospice - offering whole-person-centered care to those facing life-limiting illness and their families. If you don't have experience with hospice or know the "right" thing to say, don't worry! The most important thing is to be a caring presence with them, and sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all.
Volunteers will be thoroughly trained with a full day of hospice volunteer orientation and a chance to have all your questions addressed. We would love to have you join our hospice team!

Description
Interim Healthcare of Charleston has been delivering home health and senior care services with unmatched compassion since 1985. We serve those living in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. In 2022, we expanded into hospice care, offering holistic care to those facing life-limiting illness and their families. Our hospice team includes medical director, hospice nurse, social worker, hospice aide, chaplain, and volunteers. These volunteers are a vital component of the work of hospice!

- The time is flexible and up to you. Even one hour a week can make a difference!
- We offer a thorough one-day volunteer orientation program. Volunteers also need to have a driver's license and up to date car insurance. A PPD (tuberculosis skin test) is needed each year.
