Thank the Donor Volunteer

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Community Blood Center

  • 2 people are interested

A vital program for acknowledging the contribution of blood donors, the Thank the Donor program allows a patient, friend, or loved one to send an anonymous message to the person who donated the blood being transfused. A small, heart-shaped tag with a QR code is placed on each unit of blood given to patients in the hospital. We are recruiting volunteers to take over the tagging of the units in an effort to relieve CBC staff from the majority of this task.

Volunteers will work in 2-hour shifts in the Components Lab to tag RBC (red blood cells) units and in the PTL Lab to tag platelet units. Staff will provide an area in the labs for volunteers to sit or stand. Staff will move units to an area where tagging will be done and then move the tagged units back to the cooler (RBCs) or agitator (platelets).
