BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees, Human Trafficking survivors and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 23 offices across the country ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency through English language classes, job training and placement services, and community participation activities. The Headquarters Resettlement Department provides guidance and oversight for the domestic offices. This volunteer will assist the anti-human trafficking department. Duties will include research, data entry, file preparation. Person must be organized. There will be no direct contact with any of the Human Trafficking survivors. This position is a desk position. The Anti-Human Trafficking Department Assistant will work closely with the case managers in assisting them with case file preparations and updates, update resource list for client services that are available in the community (i.e. housing, medical, mental health, food).

Description
Since 1960, the Miami resettlement office has resettled more than 10,000refugees, providing them a fresh start and opportunities to use their greatest resources--their motivation, their skills and their experiences--to become independent and self-sufficient new Americans. Currently, the office resettles and/or provides assistance to over 1,000 refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking per year in Miami
The IRC makes sure newly arrived refugees receive:
- a furnished home
- help with rent
- health care
- nutritious, affordable food
- English language classes
- help building job, computer & financial literacy skills
- education for their children
- social services and community support
- legal services toward residency & citizenship
