Visitor Center & Interpretive Volunteer
ORGANIZATION: National Park Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help with a variety of Visitor Services! Duties will include staffing a visitor center, providing outstanding information/orientation services, ringing up bookstore sales for nonprofit partner Western National Park Association (WNPA), and roving park trails providing informal interpretation and a friendly park presence. Training provided to set you up for success!
Timeframe of this opportunity is October through @ mid-November 2023.
Volunteers will work 32 hours per week (four 8-hour shifts) with consistent three days off per week.
An RV pad adjacent to to the Visitor Center complex with hook-ups (water, sewer, electric) is provided.
A laundry facility has recently been installed for our RV residents.
The RV pads are located about 15 miles from downtown Flagstaff, a city of about 75,000 residents and all services available.
Note that park elevation and the Flagstaff area is approximately 7,000 feet above sea level.
A particular challenge is lack of cell phone and internet service at our RV sites; we are working on that! In the meantime, there is coverage 1.5 miles up the road at the Lava Flow Trailhead, or those volunteers with a completed federal background check and 'PIV card' can access a phone and computer at the Visitor Center. As such, a completed background check is not required, but preferred.
