Project Overview

Hope for Haitians seeks an experienced HR volunteer to help build our capacity to include skilled professionals as volunteers in our mission.

Project scope and deliverables include:
  1. Evaluate current program activities to identify those which could be improved by a knowledgeable and skilled volunteer
  2. Formulate a volunteer staffing structure for independent teams of volunteers in key program areas
  3. Create a recruiting process to draft and post volunteer job opportunities, screen and interview candidates, and assist with onboarding new volunteers
  4. Implement process designed to recruit initial volunteers (likely at the project manager level)

Every year, our organization provides safe new homes to 50+ Haitian families living in desperate poverty. We work with volunteer leadership partners in those communities to provide safe water, develop economic opportunities, improve food security, support education, and provide basic medical care. Since 2001 we have completed 17 village projects impacting thousands of families in the communities where we work.

Our staff is small: 1.5 people. Volunteers are a key component to the effectiveness of Hope for Haitians. More than 40 volunteers in Haiti work in leadership and community development in the villages where we work. An equal number work in the US as board members, fundraising and event volunteers.

As a small staff with a big mission, volunteers with professional skills will enhance our ability to raise funds, communicate our work, measure our impact, and plan projects that deliver the greatest possible impact in the communities in Haiti where we work.

The Executive Director is the primary contact for the position. His direct involvement means that access to information, images, materials, staff, board, volunteers, and Haiti contacts can be easily arranged.

The organization has put in place a Slack and Trello account to manage communication and implementation for this and future projects. Microsoft Teams and Zoom are available for virtual meetings.

This project is the first step in developing a robust cadre of skilled volunteers. Once this project is completed, recruitment of additional task and skill specific volunteers will begin. Our vision is to develop a community of skilled volunteers who through their efforts help to radically transform the lives of Haitian families living in extreme poverty.
