Sequoia Hospice is looking for compassionate individuals who can provide comfort and support to patients with a life-limiting illness and relief for their family/caregivers. Service is provided within Santa Clara County.
To become a hospice volunteer at Sequoia Hospice, no experience is required, all training and support will be provided. The precious gift of your time, caring nature, and genuine want to be present is priceless.
Volunteering can be as simple as sitting by the bedside, listening with compassion, playing music, reading a book, helping create a scrapbook, and as needed, offering support, providing relief for the family members and caregivers. Volunteers do not provide clinical or personal care, but can provide social visits to a patient, or give the caregiver a little break, or time to rest. Volunteers can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families. Volunteers can also assist with "light" routine tasks.This position is perfect for those who have a passion for serving their community or need volunteer hours.
* You must wear a mask when visiting patients, safety for you, patients, and family. All personal protective equipment and training will be provided.

Provide relief for caregivers & supportive social interaction with patients.
Assist the patient through Life Review.
Assist in light chores such as laundry, cleaning windows, etc.....
Provide the patient with pet therapy, certificate required.
Clerical support; filing, answering phones, copying, computer work, etc......
Prepare & mail newsletters, thank you notes, sympathy cards, and other literature
Create blankets, quilts, scarves, mittens, pictures, cards, music CD's, etc.....
Bring music into Adult or Skilled facilities - If you can sing or play a musical instrument, this brings joy and entertainment to staff, patients and families.
**Interviews will be conducted remote.
***All volunteer visiting patients are required to wear masks. Any personal protective equipment will be provided. Volunteers will not see any active COVID patients.
Note: Administrative volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and patient volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
All volunteers will need to undergo background check, drug testing, have a valid California Driver's license or student ID, proof or auto insurance, and a record of a current TB test (Sequoia will provide TB test at no cost). All training provided. Mileage reimbursement provided-You must be able to work in the United States and have a Social Security Card.
