The most important thing our board members bring is a commitment to helping at-risk children who happen to live anywhere in the world. Our kids live in Vietnam, in extreme poverty, with no, or very limited, prospects for education.

We are looking for board members with integrity, generous hearts and good humor! Ideally a Bridges to Learning board member will have had experience on another nonprofit board. However, it is more important that members care about our mission and be willing to pitch in when needed.

Bridges to Learning board members contribute to the governance and development of the organization to support the schools. Our primary task is to provide financial support for the two schools in Vietnam. Board members should be comfortable or willing to engage their networks and participate in fundraisers.

Board meetings: The third Wednesday of every month from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. We typically alternate between in person and remote meetings online, however since the pandemic we have had mostly on-line meetings. In person meetings are generally held in a public library conference room, or other free meeting space in the metro area. We are open to having "remote" board members as well.

Experience:

B2L welcomes a broad range of contributors and backgrounds to the board. High priority areas of experience and expertise include:

  • Fundraising
  • Marketing
  • Prior non-profit board experience
  • Education
  • Website design and development
  • Social media management
  • Event management
  • Finance
  • Commitment and passion to helping children

Most board members sponsor a child at one of our schools ($500/year) or at a level that is affordable to them. Although we have some administrative support, board members are asked to "roll up their sleeves" to use your expertise to help with fundraisers, social media and other organizational needs. The time commitment averages 3-5 hours/month.

If you are interested in serving on the B2L board, please send an email to stacy@bridges2learning org.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Mission Statement

Bridges to Learning provides education, health and social development programs to empower impoverished Vietnamese children to change their world. Founded in September 2004, Bridges to Learning (B2L) strives to provide resources for the education, well-being and social interaction of severely impoverished and under-served children in developing countries. B2L has grown into an internationally recognized charity, providing sponsored support and funds for the Anh Linh School, awarding stipends for students attending public schools and further expanding its work to the Viet Anh Primary School.

Description

When she turned 60, Jerilyn Hirsch decided to retire from her career as an organization development consultant and do something to "make the world a better place." Drawn to humanitarian work in Vietnam, she learned that Anh Linh Free school needed to start an English program for its students.

Living in Vietnam, the amazing experience teaching and working with the other teachers and staff at Anh Linh changed her life. After seeing the impact her work had on students’ lives, Jerri and her husband Bob Mac Murdo founded B2L to continue this rewarding - and important - work.

Jerri has a motto: "Making a difference is a choice, not an accident." She continues to inspire others on many continents to make the same choice.

From those modest origins, B2L has grown into an internationally recognized charity, providing funds to support Anh Linh school’s 300 children, with sponsors supporting 60 of the children, awarding stipends for students attending public schools, and expanding its work to the Viet Anh Primary school.

From the beginning, Bridges to Learning has supported, financed and funded projects that nurture potential and provide opportunities to under served students and children. Employing one part time employee, the energy and gifts of many generous volunteers power this great effort!

Bridges to Learning is a volunteer non-profit 501 c(3) corporation.
