Volunteers are an integral part of hospice care. Whether its providing companionship, offering support to family and caregivers, assisting the office team, or participating in community outreach, the contributions of our volunteers are essential to our hospice program. Our volunteers are prepared to join our team of physicians, nurses, home health aids, social workers and spiritual support providers who support patients at the end of their journey. When you are a part of the Bristol Volunteer Team, you receive training, support, a network of fellow volunteers and staff, and the knowledge that you have comforted someone on their final journey.

Some examples of typical volunteer duties are:

• Provide companionship for a patient.
• A comforting and supportive presence during the final weeks, days, and hours of life.
• Provide respite time for the patient’s caregivers.
• Run errands or doing light household tasks.
• Help a patient record memories or complete special projects.
• Play music, read aloud, enjoy a sunny day, or watch a movie.
• Offer special support to Veteran patients.
• Assist hospice staff in various ways at the office or in the community.

Most of all, volunteers help our patients make every day a better day and give patients a moment of normalcy in the midst of what might otherwise be a stressful time.
