Recruiting Organization: Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation
Volunteer Opportunity: Development Committee Members (Multiple positions)
The Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is looking for volunteer (unpaid) Development Committee Members to join our Development team! SASF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on raising critical funds for the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). We support programs at the animal shelter that the City of Seattle cannot fund on their own. Our all-volunteer board and committees are passionate about animal care and love giving back to our community.
Development Committee Members will work together to help fundraise and raise awareness for our organization through major gifts and stewardship, communications and writing, and data management and analysis.
The ideal candidate has experience with donor development and fundraising, or sales and client relations, ideally for a non-profit organization. They are excited to engage and work to grow our current donor base, from our top dollar donors to the monthly recurring subscribers and the one-time givers. Attention to detail, self-organization, a can-do attitude, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small team environment are essential elements to this role.
Committee Responsibilities:
- Communications and Writing: Assist with copy writing for acknowledgement and direct mail solicitation letters, as well as additional fundraising communications. Assist with the processing of acknowledgement letters to send and distribute to donors in a timely manner.
- Major Gifts and Stewardship: Assist with portfolio management of donors at the $1k+ level and above to steward and engage them in the impact of their giving. Establish and build relationships by planning and implementing activities with these donors to connect them with SAS and the Foundation’s role.
- Data management and analysis: Provide support for data entry, including best practices for standard operating procedures for data management, and analysis through the customer relationship management tools and systems such as eTapestry and Greater Giving. Create and track metrics for fundraising and engagement performance year over year to assist with fundraising growth and success. Support the Development Director with gift entry, running reports and data analysis as needed.
Preferred qualifications among the following:
- Knowledge and experience in fund raising or client relations techniques
- Ability or interest in donor networking or solicitation
- Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability
- Major gift fundraising or customer relations with high net worth individuals
- Data management and analysis skills in relation to donor data and CRM tools
- Experience partnering with city/county/state officials
- Experience reviewing grant requests and handling grant approvals
- Passion for animals
Time commitment: 3 to 5 hours per week, on average.
