BECOME APART OF ONE OF THE SOLUTIONS Enjoy a hands-on, fun, transformative, activity-based experience. You'll connect deeply with others, laugh and have fun, share, and listen while learning ways to reduce conflict in your community, your classroom, your family, at work, in prisons or in the world. Participants and facilitators jointly explore our own relationships with conflict and seek more creative ways to respond.

Treat yourself to this workshop purely for personal growth or make it a first step toward facilitating AVP workshops in prisons or the community.

Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) helps us explore the power we all have to change hostility and destructiveness into cooperation, community, and justice.

BASIC WORKSHOP March over 2 weeks
(10 days for 2 hours each)
Monday thru Friday (20th-24th) 6pm to 8pm EST and
Monday thru Friday (27th-31st) 6pm to 8pm EST.

More About AVP - You can join other workshops.

  • AVP has three levels of workshops (Basic, Advanced and Training for Facilitators)
  • Basic AVP Workshops show how the program works and introduces basic principles like Transforming Power and Using I Messages.
  • Advanced AVP Workshops asks participants to commit to working to put Transforming Power to work in their own lives Advanced workshops often work on a specific topic such as Anger, Forgiveness, Dealing with Biases, etc. Only those who have completed a Basic Workshop can attend advanced workshops.
  • Training for Facilitators Workshops give people who are interested in deeper involvement a chance to practice the skills of AVP facilitation. Only those who have completed a basic workshop and at least one advanced workshop can attend Training for Facilitators.

Becoming an AVP Facilitator has many rewards:
    • A greatly satisfying volunteer opportunity.
    • A source of ongoing personal growth. Facilitators say they learn a bit more about themselves with each workshop they help facilitate.
    • Learning the power of facilitating (not leading) a class as a part of a team.
    • Being a part of a dedicated and stimulating group of people.
