ORGANIZATION: Office of Aging/Lancaster County

Volunteer Counselors trains intensely for months online, then do a face-to-face training, then shadow the current volunteers for a while until they feel comfortable enough to meet with a benefiary face to face counseling them re: Medicare. Volunteers mentor each other. Training goes on constrantly as Medicare makes change in guidelines from time to time. Volunteers feel comfortable in a team setting with at least one other volunteer here at same time, as well as a supervisor, the Volunteer Coordinator.

1 Shift

  • morning / 09:00 AM to 11:45 AM
    one day a week/4 hr at a time/answering phones, counseling beneficiaries

PA MEDI is based at the Office of Aging. It's purpose is counsel older adults with questions about Medicare and other health insurance.Volunteers work as PA MEDI Volunteer Counselors and are specifically trained to answer insurance related questions and advise with objective, easy to understand information.
