Hospice of the Valley e is looking for Certified Massage Therapists to volunteer with hospice patients.
No experience is necessary - we provide you with training! We serve patients in the San Jose and surrounding areas. We match people and patients based on their availability and location preferences.
The greatest gift you can offer to hospice patients is your time, your caring nature, your healing skills and your willingness to listen. To volunteer, you should provide proof of completed training in reiki or massage therapy. We provide hospice training and ongoing support to all volunteers, so experience is not required.
Being a hospice volunteer is a great opportunity to practice compassion and discover your skills and learn new ones during end-of-life care. Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.
Volunteer don't provide clinical or personal care.
Volunteers receive 11 hours of self-paced, online training, health clearance and a background check through Sutter Health. Our volunteers are required to receive or show verification of an annual flu shot and Tuberculin skin test or blood test, provide immunization records or titers showing immunity to MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and Varicella, show proof of TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and COVID-19 vaccinations, complete a drug screen and a health screening, consent to a criminal background check, and submit a copy of current driver’s license and auto insurance. Sutter will provide health screening and any necessary tests or vaccinations. A minimum of 1 year commitment is requested. Volunteers work closely with Volunteer Program Coordinator as members of the hospice team and can attending monthly support meeting (not required) for hospice volunteers.

Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.
Volunteers may stay with the patient to give the caregiver some time away or time to rest and they can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families. While volunteers cannot provide clinical or personal care, they may be able to assist with routine tasks and errands.
Requirements: Volunteers receive 24 hours of training, health clearance and a background check, and attend monthly educational meetings. They must work closely with Volunteer Program Coordinator as members of the hospice team.
