JSC Corps Member Position Title at Org: Compass Center

Information and Referral Services Specialist Brief Position Description: The Information and Referral Services Specialist oversees the daily operations of the Information and Referral Program at Compass Center. This program provides clients with referrals for services available in our community for a wide variety of concerns. Clients who call or come to the center during business hours are connected to resources available at Compass Center, as well as providing referrals to services like food pantries, healthcare, attorneys, and mental health referrals. This position works directly with clients to assess and meet their needs and supervises Information and Referral volunteers (I&R volunteers). The Information and Referral Services Specialist works with the Client Services & Volunteer Manager to ensure that referrals are accurately tracked in our database, and that resource information is regularly updated and shared with volunteers.

How Position Furthers Org’s Mission: This position oversees one of our main programs, the Information and Referral Program. The volunteers that this position will supervise are the first people clients interact with at our agency as they answer the phones, the front door, and either provide services directly to the client or appropriately triage them to other programs. The proper running of this program affects the entire agency and our ability to have the agency run smoothly on a daily basis. Additionally, we serve about 800 clients annually in the Information and Referral Program and need high-quality services to be provided. By assisting with the delivery of Information & Referral Services and Self-Sufficiency Services, the Information and Referral Services Specialist is enabling us to provide important economic-related services in our community. IRSS helps community members connect more easily to services that empower them and help increase economic justice in our community.
