Join volunteers from the Pierce Downer Heritage Alliance and be part of a team that can make a difference! Help care for the natural area surrounding Lyman Woods Nature Center and forest preserve by joining us for our Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup Day where we will pick up trash along Highland Ave.
The Park District will provide all tools and safety equipment such as trash bags, reflective vests, and gloves. All participants will need to sign a waiver in advance and listen to a short safety briefing on the day of event.
Volunteers should have the ability to work outdoors, be able to work with others as a team, and follow the directions of the day's supervisors. Youth volunteers under the age of 14 require a ratio of 1 adult for 5 participants.

William F. Sherman, Jr. Interpretive Center is the starting off point for exploration of Lyman Woods. The William F. Sherman, Jr. Interpretive Center is a green building exemplifying environmentally friendly building practices and technology. Lyman Woods is 150 acres of oak woods, prairie, and marsh habitats that supports over 300 species of native plants.
