Serve Hospice Patients in Marshall County

Thank you for considering volunteer service with Enhabit Hospice. There are many opportunities for our volunteers to interact directly and serve hospice patients in Marshall County.

Companionship volunteers are trained to go into a hospice patient’s home and provide non-medical support through socialization and companionship. Activities may include spending time with patients, reading, listening to music, playing cards, painting nails, or discussing interests!

Caregiver relief or respite volunteers visit patients in order give their caregiver the opportunity to leave the home for a couple hours. This allows them to take a break and have the opportunity to run errands. Respite volunteers do not provide medical care or "hands on" care to patients; they are only there to keep a patient company during the absence of their caregiver.

Visiting/ Volunteers make deliveries for birthdays, special occasions, holidays, run errands and/or help with small household tasks

Spiritual care volunteers meet with patient and family to provide spiritual care. Volunteers are matched to patients of the same faith and spiritual background. Volunteers are welcomed to sing hymns, do devotions, or Bible readings, and provide prayer, etc. if the patient wishes. You will receive additional training and guidance by the Enhabit chaplain.

Volunteers are welcome to provide assistance during the day, after hours, or on weekends. Volunteer commitment is flexible to volunteer’s schedule.

Requirements

We provide free training for all of our volunteers. We prepare our volunteers to understand the complexity of issues and feelings that surround hospice care and end of life. Our care process is designed to maximize our patient’s quality of life and offer our patients and their love one’s comfort, support and guidance when facing a terminal illness. Therefore, Volunteers must complete the application and orientation processes. To ensure the safety of patients and volunteers Enhabit will do background screenings, and require volunteers to provide a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and proof of COVID-19 vaccination. A 2-step TB skin test is required and will be provided by Enhabit. Volunteers must have reliable transportation, must be dependable, and have the ability to complete written documentation.

Jr. volunteers ages 14-18 may volunteer as long as they are accompanied and supervised by an adult volunteer.

Please contact me if you think you would be interested in volunteering. I look forward to hearing from you today!
