ORGANIZATION: Hillsborough Education Foundation

Hillsborough Education Foundation (HEF) is seeking volunteers to assist students with college and career planning, exploration and execution of admissions and financial aid applications, as well as enrollment options like Dual Enrollment and Career Technical/Workforce pathways. Volunteers will meet with students in SCOPE (Student Center of Postsecondary Exploration) located at King High School and will work in collaboration with HEF’s College and Career Coordinator.

Volunteers are needed in SCOPE on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 2-3 hours on weekly basis. In order to effectively serve students, center volunteers should plan to commit at least 2-3 volunteer shifts per month during the Calendar school year. Center volunteer shifts typically last from 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm.

No experience is needed, dedicated volunteers will receive training by HEF’s College & Career Coordinator and will shadow two shifts before meeting directly with students. Training materials including a volunteer handbook will also be provided. All volunteers will need to complete a Hillsborough County Public Schools volunteer application.

About Hillsborough Education Foundation

Location:

Mission Statement

Our mission is to strengthen public education in Hillsborough County through advocacy, investment of resources and programs that empower every student to achieve both academic and personal success.

Description

Hillsborough Education Foundation is dedicated to deepening our impact on students and teachers to ensure every student receives a high-quality education. We are particularly focused on creating equity and leveling the playing field in our highest needs schools. Together with our partners, we are investing in a prosperous future for our community.

Our work centers around making an impact, engaging our community to invest in education and ensuring our teachers have the necessary resources to provide all students with an equal opportunity to graduate and achieve success. By strengthening public education, we strive to build a better community to positively impact the lives of individual teachers and students, regardless of background or economic status.

We pride ourselves in collaborating with our supporters to ensure your gifts are used in the most impactful way possible. For every dollar our partners invest, 92 cents is used directly for programs supporting teachers and students. It is due in part to our dedication to be responsible stewards of donors’ contributions that we have earned a 4 Star Charity rating from Charity Navigator.

As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Foundation provides Hillsborough County Public Schools with funding that is typically more flexible than restricted tax dollars. The funding and extra resources for the students, teachers, and schools helps to cover the gap that exists between what school budgets can cover, and what is needed to ensure the academic success of our students.
