Join us in spreading positivity, joy and support to a BIPOC community named the Zapata King community. This event will consist of wrapping the community trees with Black History Month decor that will be up for the duration of February 2023. The decor on each tree will consist of a laminate cultural signs a Black Leader in history and topped off with colorful ribbon that represent the cause. There is a total of 250 trees, on a total of 6 street, and we are looking to cover in the Zapata King area. We are in need of at least 10 volunteers that can assist in wrapping community trees for the Black History month.

Mission Statement

URU is a Community Resource Center that facilitates resources and manages Community Service Projects in the South Los Angeles area since 2014. Our projects aim to increase civic engagements, community service awareness and showing proud representation in the community.

Description

Our programs have cleaned and maintained our residential streets in South LA since 2014. Making us #1 for Blight Reduction team. URU is recognized by the City Council in these endeavors, and has been awarded twice by the Mayor’s CleanStreets Challenge in 2016 and 2017. We have established partnering relationships with City Officials and Municipal Leaders around Los Angeles County. With these connections we aim to improve the spirit of our community by pushing policies for our neighborhoods. URU is actively focusing on transforming South Central communities into live, active and more blight-ridden areas. These areas will create a better quality of life for the stakeholders of the communities. Our Blight Patrol is designed to proactively clean and maintain the residential areas, report and track City’s progress for the responsibility of their departments.
