Development Lead (AmeriCorps VISTA)



This AmeriCorps VISTA position is a full-time 12-month assignment based in Canoga Park, CA. The focus will beon developing projects that will enhance long-term sustainability of a YouthBuild program. AmeriCorps Volunteer In Service To America (VISTA) is a national service program committed to fighting poverty and promoting economic equity. VISTA members will work with a dynamic team and contribute to a national initiative to strengthen the infrastructure and capacity of R.U.T.H. YouthBuild. Specifically, the VISTA member will help to expand community partnerships, fund development, data research and evaluation,

internal organization policies and procedures, and resource development.


R.U.T.H. YouthBuild is a leadership development program for young people ages 16 to 24 who live in economically distressed neighborhoods. Young people learn leadership, advocacy and workforce readiness skills, while they earn an accredited high school diploma and industry recognized certifications. R.U.T.H. stands for our program core values: Resilience, Unity, Transformation and Hope.

We are a full-time, project-based program focused on restorative practices that allows young people to develop skills needed to rebuild their communities and their lives.


YouthBuild USA Program

The mission of YouthBuild USA is to break the cycle of poverty by unleashing the intelligence and positive energy of low-income out-of-school young adults to rebuild their communities and their lives. In YouthBuild programs in America's poorest communities, low-income young people ages 16 to 24 enroll full-time for about a year, during which time they build affordable housing for homeless and low-income people and work toward their own high school diploma or GED while learning leadership skills and internalizing the ethic of service. These programs are run by autonomous local community-based or public agencies.


Benefits:

  • Annual Stipend $ 21,622 = $ 829 bi-weekly for Los Angeles County
  • Choice of Education Award $ 6,195 or End of Service Stipend $1,800 paid upon completion of a full-service term
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Relocation assistance: travel allowance for relocation of more than 50 miles and eligible mileage reimbursement up to $1000.00
  • Childcare benefits (children must be under 13)
  • Additional housing allowance may be available

Since its inception, ACE has help disenfranchised, young people overcome barriers by addressing the core issues facing low-income communities. Through its RUTH YouthBuild and GRYD programs, ACE has helped youth rebuild their life and set the course for a better future by providing education, job readiness training, leadership/social development, counseling and supporting services by utilizing an engaging and holistic approach. ACE is grounded in the fundamental belief that young people, when given the right assistance, tools and role models, can transform their lives and their community.
