Compeer matches adults who are living with mental illness with community volunteers to create intentional friendships.
As a volunteer you will connect with your friend on a regular basis at mutually convenient times to share activities you both enjoy, such as movies, sports, going for walks in good weather, shopping or coffee and a chat, etc.
You and your new friend will spend about an hour together once a week (or 2 hours every two weeks). We need volunteers across the adult age and gender spectrum (though our minimum volunteer age is 23). Training, ongoing education and support are provided by the Compeer staff.
Being a Compeer friend is a fun, fullfilling and wonderful way to make the world a better place!

Mission Statement
Compeer's mission is to reduce the loneliness and isolation of adults receiving mental health treatment by developing structured friendships with trained community volunteers. We envision a day when all communities embrace individuals and their families living with mental health challenges.
Description
You and your new friend will spend about an hour together once a week (or 2 hours every two weeks). We need volunteers of all ages, minimum 23 years old. Training, ongoing education and support are provided by the Compeer staff.
Compeer volunteers make a positive difference in someone’s life. Your friendship provides a sense of connection and companionship for yourself and for your match friend. Each person has gained a new friend with whom to enjoy and explore different aspects of life, learn from, and grow with.

- We ask that volunteers be able to meet with their friend for 4 hours a month, on a schedule that fits with both people's lives. We ask that both the vounteer and friend make a 1 year commitment.
- We require vounteers to agree to a backgronud check, provide references and complete our volunteer training. We ask participants to be actively engaged in regular therapy sessions.
