Whether you have experience in farming and gardening or you are interested in learning. Volunteering at New Growth Project will help our staff in preparing for the 2023 season. The more we have assistance in growing this spring, the more we will be able to focus on our mission which is providing job opportunities for individuals with development disabilities.
Each volunteer shift will consist of one or more of the following tasks. Planting seeds, watering, transplanting, harvesting, washing produce, packaging produce, assisting in other farm tasks.

Mission Statement
New Growth Project cultivates job opportunities and creates community connections for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities through the art of farming. Through our mission, all involved develop a better understanding of individuals with developmental disabilities and our clients are given the support needed to be successful in employment. Our Goals at New Growth Project: Create employment opportunities through simplified job tasks at a farm and in a market with peer-mentor support. Our goal is to meet our employees at their level of skill and place them in a job that allows them to use their skills and develop new ones. New Growth Project farm, located in Rockford, MI, harvests chemical-free produce to sell to the community, local restaurants, and community-supported agriculture memberships.
Description
New Growth Project was established in September 2021. We farm about 8 acres with vegetables including tomatoes, lettuces, cucumbers, squash and much more. Our main purpose is to provide job opportunities for individuals with neurodiversity. We do so by building a program that meets their needs and build a plan to help them thrive. We provide peer-mentor support because we believe that having a peer by your side can provide a great learning environment. Also, being on a farm where there is low sensory impact, individuals are likely to have less distractions. Our goal is to support employees in gaining job skills so that when they have employment elsewhere they have skills to help them succeed. Last season we employed 10 individuals and had our first successful harvest season.
