About Ambler Arboretum of Temple University

Location:

580 Meetinghouse Road, Administration Building, Ambler, PA 19002, US

Mission Statement

Ambler Arboretum of Temple University is an educational resource modeling the art and science of horticulture and environmental responsibility while fostering research, celebrating the achievements of women in horticulture, preserving the historic significance of the campus and highlighting the health benefits of nature, plants and gardening.

Description

On September 1, 2021 the Ambler Arboretum was struck by a confirmed EF2 Tornado that was spawned from Hurricane Ida. The damage to the arboretum's collections was catastrophic. The Arboretum lost more than 500 trees within its cultivated areas and many more in the natural woodland areas. Volunteering at this time is focused on the recovery and rebuilding from this disaster.

Temple University Ambler has a long history of horticulture and landscape design. Established as the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women in 1910, the 187-acre campus represents a unique mix of natural and designed landscapes. The gardens serve as excellent outdoor learning laboratories for numerous classes and as a source of inspiration for the campus and local communities.

The Ambler Arboretum of Temple University has a diverse range of learning gardens, from formal perennial gardens to a green roof garden, which provide a rich diversity of garden experiences.
