Join the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and provide specialized free tax service to current and former foster youth during the 2023 tax season. Volunteer from home virtually or in-person using Covid-19 safety precautions. Training is free on-line. VITA is an IRS program provided through a partnership between LA County DCFS and the John Burton Foundation. Last year, a similar project in six counties served 250 current and former foster youth and was able to get $725,000 in tax refunds and stimulus payment into the pockets of our foster youth! Volunteers made a big difference in the lives of these youth, boosting their income by 15% and for young parents by 31%. Advance your career at the same time: this is a great résumé building experience.
