The importance of formulating a board of directors has long been indigenous of the valuable contributions it will provide to the overall organization of a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) or any corporation, foundation or program like Heartsong.

Heartsong’s board of directors has grown from its early years but prides itself on its very diverse background of the individuals serving on its board. Diversity of skill sets is tremendously important to maintaining a strong and effective board.

The board's key purpose "is to ensure the company's prosperity by collectively directing the company's affairs, while meeting the appropriate interests of its shareholders and relevant stakeholders". Their main role is to perform the duties of strategic planning and oversight. While these terms are used often, it’s important not to diminish these duties, as they are the backbone of successful business planning.
