Read to Lead is a youth program sponsored by I Would Rather Be Reading. In this program, students receive literacy tutoring, social-emotional learning, and enrichment opportunities. However, since kids come to us after school, we want to make sure they have lots of fun, as well as lots of learning.
On February 16th, our sites will be hosting cookie decorating parties for all of our students. We are looking for volunteers to come join the fun! Our staff will direct the decorating and clean up. Volunteers will work with students to help decorate, provide conversation with students, and donate supplies.
We would love to have you come celebrate friendship and fun with the Read to Lead students and staff! Please reach out if you're interested!

Mission Statement
I Would Rather Be Reading (IWRBR) provides equitable access to trauma responsive literacy support and social-emotional learning to children across greater Louisville. We offer out of school time programming options at 7 community centers and 2 JCPS schools. In our programming, students receive structured literacy tutoring, enrichment opportunities, social-emotional learning, field trips, and a safe space to call their own.
Description
We've been around since 2018 when we started our first summer camp at Jacob Elementary serving 9 kids. Since the start of IWRBR, we have served over 700 students and families. Currently, we have 250 students enrolled across our 9 sites in Louisville, KY.
In the Read to Lead program, we ensure that we meet the following goals to impact children's lives:
1) Maintain 80% attendance rate among enrolled students
2) Increase student proficiency in literacy by developing their phonological/phonemic and phonics skills.
3) Increase social emotional wellness by delivering intentional, explicit instruction in SEL competencies.
4) Provide enriching experiences to students to help them broaden their horizons and realize their interests.
5) Provide consistency and safety in students' lives.
In 2022, we had over 25 active partnerships, between funders to community organizations that helped us realize our programming goals.
