Do you want to make a difference in your community for animals? If so, maybe it is time to consider becoming a pet advocate. A pet advocate is someone who believes in the right of pets to exist without fear of abuse, exploitation or extermination. Pet advocates work hard and sometimes fight so that this right is upheld.

According to the American Veterinarian Medical Association, 36.5% of households own dogs and 30% own cats. An estimated 40,000 dogs are subject to dog-fighting each year. Thousands of cases of animal cruelty are reported each year with thousands estimated to go unreported. Approximately 5 to 7 million animals are euthanized annually nationwide. One-third of cats are strays. Pet advocates fight for the rights of animals to prevent suffering and the right to not be viewed as property, entertainment, or test subjects.

We will provide access to certified pet trainers, groomers, dog walkers, breed-restricted pet housing network referrals, NYC dog licenses, and other in-house related services to better serve community pets and their parents. Our Pet Advocates (volunteers) will make routine home visits to assist pet owners with dog walking responsibilities, keeping water/food available at all times (5 days a week), and managing pet outdoor (recess) times. All services will be licensed and insured to protect pets and advocates alike.

About PITBULLS ARE FAMILY INC

Mission Statement

Pitbulls Are Family was incorporated in September 2021 to increase the number of lives saved through animal rescue in NYC. Our services will include adoption referrals, breed-restricted pet advocacy, programs for pet surrenders, and resources/funding for pet owners with outrageous pet deposits/rent, all offered in a reliable community space. Our programs will allow rescue organizations to focus on saving every animal in care and finding their forever homes. "When family pets are treated well, the kill-shelters don’t become a holding cell"

Description

Here at Pitbulls Are Family, we believe in a simple, yet special approach to our cause-specific pet care programs and organizational structure. Our services were created so that fellow pet parents and families will not have to surrender their pet due to financial hardship. Most of the time, funding is available to directly address the needs of many community pet owners seeking assistance to feed, house, or generally maintain the wellness of their furry family member. While many animal welfare organizations are established to temporarily house and find the forever home for pets, we are taking a broader and more beneficial route to ensuring all pets are kept at home with a loving, caring, and devoted pet parent. Pitbulls Are Family practices a "no-kill" policy and will not direct anyone to an animal shelter or facility that purposely and carelessly euthanize animals for unknown reasons, or due to animal overcapacity.
