Write Birthday Cards from Your Home

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: L.A. Family Housing

  • 86 people are interested

QUICK OVERVIEW

Write thoughtful birthday cards to adults transitioning out of homelessness and mail them to us. We will then give them to our adult participants on their special day!

IMPACT

Unfortunately, one of the leading causes of homelessness is lack of a good support network. Birthdays can be a challenging reminder of that. With your cards, you can help our participants know that there's someone out there thinking of them and wishing them well.

VOLUNTEER ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

5 mailed cards = 1 hour of volunteer service.

For full volunteer credit, we ask that you adhere to the following:

Follow our Birthday card guidelines.

Write your full name and email address on a separate piece of paper and place it in an envelope with the birthday cards. (So we know who to give credit to!)

Send the envelope to the address we'll give you after sign-up.

Please note we cannot approve court-ordered service hours.

REQUIREMENTS

Do

Write a lighthearted and uplifting, handwritten card in your own words. (Think of it like a one-way pen pal!)

Feel free to get creative! Drawings and handmade cards are welcome (so long as no personal information is shared).

Share general information about yourself, like your favorite things about birthdays or you the dishes you enjoy cooking/eating.

Focus more on no-cost ways to enjoy birthdays rather than on expensive things.

Please write legibly.

Don't

Share personal information like your last name, birthday, contact info, or social handles.

Share any religious discussion.

Offer to buy or send them anything. Please trust that we are providing participants with everything they need.

Mention a person's living situation or status as experiencing homelessness.

Send pictures of yourself.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The mailing address will be sent upon sign-up.
