Recruiting Organization: Gentiva Hospice-Daytona Beach
- Gentiva invites friendly and well-behaved pets to join the Paw Pals program, in which animals and their humans learn how to visit patients at the end of their life. A registered Gentiva Paw Pals visitor can offer comfort, bring back memories, encourage activity and provide unconditional love to Gentiva patients. Your visits leave behind memories of you and your pet and rekindle thoughts of other pets. Pet visits can sometimes reach a patient when no one else can. Pet visits are also encouraged for our office team located in Daytona Beach; our Paw Pals brightens the day for everyone when they visit. Although the majority of animals serving in this capacity will be dogs, all kinds of pets are invited to join The Gentiva Paw Pals Club. Dogs must be certified/ registered by an American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized therapy dog organization ( http://www.akc.org/events/title-recognition-program/therapy/organizations/). Other certified/ registered therapy animals will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. All Paw Pals must be well-groomed, at least one- year old, and have up-to-date health records.
VOLUNTEER (pet handler) -The Pet Therapy Volunteer must have an understanding of Hospice Philosophy and possess the ability to actively listen and communicative compassionately with patients, families and caregivers. He/ she must go through onboarding process and adhere to Gentiva Hospice policies and procedures. The Pet Therapy Volunteer or handler must always accompany the certified therapy animal on visits; it is not acceptable for another handler to accompany the animal. For more information about Gentiva Volunteer Services and how your visits can brighten everyone’s day, visit Gentiva Hospice (gentivahs.com) or contact me, Volunteer Coordinator at 386-274- 1004, Barbara.carrera@gentivahs.com.
