The Maasai Women Empowerment and Climate Change Adaptation Project (MWECCAP) aims to reduce risk and vulnerability to climate change, strengthen resilience, enhance well-being and the capacity to anticipate, and respond successfully to change among the poor Maasai women in rural Tanzania. The project will address mitigation indirectly through reforestation and improvement of land use and land management practices including agroforestry programs that increase yields, restore soil fertility and sequestering carbon. Also, the project will introduce climate-smart agriculture and beekeeping programs to enable poor households to increase their yields. The project will therefore reduce poverty and gender inequality as women and children suffer the impacts of climate change the most.
