A lead artist's primary responsibility is to guide the artists on a project in order to maintain the vision and quality set by the art director during pre-production.

Lead artists handle the technical aspects of the art team such as art processes, tools, task definitions, and scheduling of tasks. They also communicate with the lead programmer and the producer to identify risk in the production pipeline. The lead takes the burden of artist management and protects the art team from counter-productivity. Qualifications for the position include a high school diploma or a GED along with experience in a related field. However, individuals with a bachelor's degree or a master's degree in fine arts or a related field may be given preference. Essential skills include interpersonal, organizational, creativity, and communication.

Responsibilities

You will be the motivational foundation of the Art team on the project and will help define the visual direction of the game

Additionally, you will be one of the key communications conduits for design and programming

You will act as both a manager and a mentor, fostering a team culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and empowerment

You will strive to develop processes and solutions that help to support a sustainable work life for your team

Direct, lead, and guide multiple art disciplines on a project team through all phases of development

Provide art direction and give feedback to team of artists and external vendors

Supervise, train, mentor, motivate artists

Coach team members to their optimum performance levels, and ensure the team receives regular reviews and one-on-one meetings

Manage performance within the team in a way that encourages autonomy, mastery, and purpose

Create visual touchstone assets that inspire and set visual direction and vision for others (concepts, models, paint-overs)

Manage art production and push the visual quality of art assets so they are hitting and surpassing internal quality bars

Maintain current and working knowledge on industry/market trends, make recommendations as appropriate

Contribute to developing pipelines for project with specific creative and technological needs in collaboration with engineering

Anticipate, identify, and present problem areas and develop preventative solutions for the team

Partner with production to ensure schedules and plans meet business and project needs

Partner with senior management to ensure team is healthy and strong

Skills and Abilities:

  • A proven ability to visually solve problems in collaboration with the broader game team including other artists, art leads, and design leads
  • Strong foundation in concept art skills, traditional art skills, knowledge in graphic design principles.
  • Strong eye for light, value, composition, color, anatomy.
  • Able to adapt to a great diversity of visual styles whether stylized or realistic.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Comfortable interacting and presenting to all levels of the company, key stakeholders, and publishers.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong desire to iterate and improve on processes
  • Demonstrate fundamentals of leadership, including clear and proactive communication, meeting moderation, and oversight of large cross-disciplinary initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing tasks and be self-directed to meet deadlines in a quickly evolving environment with little to no supervision
  • Positive attitude and ability to receive and provide objective and constructive feedback
  • Ability to coach, manage, mitigate, and prioritize through stressful situations for you and your team
  • Must have experience as an artist, know how to use art tools and have the capacity to produce good art

Rebecca Everlene Trust Company was incorporated in 2012 and is a tribute to the owner’s grandmothers; Rebecca Spaulding and Everlene Chambers.

The company has retained its original focus of providing educational opportunities for students and has since expanded its services to include community service options for individuals alongside a host of other community support programs.
