Social Media Intern

Do you have a passion for digital marketing and a heart for animal rescue? Helen Woodward Animal Center is seeking a creative, hard-working, fun-loving Social Media Intern to join our Operations team!

Located in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Helen Woodward Animal Center is a unique non-profit organization committed to the philosophy of people helping animals and animals helping people. In addition to finding forever homes for more than 3,500 orphan pets each year, the Center offers humane education programs for children, therapeutic horseback riding lessons for people with special needs, pet food assistance for those facing financial hardship, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and write articles for the Center’s blog. (Topics include rescue stories, advice for pet owners, marketing tips for animal shelters, and more.)
  • Craft social media posts for all platforms. (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Pinterest)
  • Write and edit website copy and email newsletters.
  • Strategize and execute ways to grow our Pinterest presence.
  • Help create an influencer marketing strategy for the 2023 #RememberMeThursday campaign.
  • Assist with photoshoots when needed, dates will be discussed in advance to ensure availability.
  • Support team with short-form video editing for Reels and TikTok.

By the end of the internship, the chosen candidate will be well-versed in social media strategy for non-profits and have many published writing samples for their portfolio.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Is a dynamic, detail-oriented writer accustomed to meeting deadlines.
  • Is inquisitive with excellent research skills.
  • Has working knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Has experience creating content for social media posts.
  • Has general knowledge of the animal rescue industry.
  • Is self-driven and comfortable working independently
  • Works well with others. They are communicative and receptive to feedback.
  • Can be flexible and change to adapt to the needs of the program.
  • Experience with photo editing software or apps a plus

Timeline: January 2023 - May 2023.

Flexible Hours: 5-10 hours/week, between 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday/Wednesdays availability a must-please.

Work Setting: 80% remote, 20% on-site. This position is primarily remote, but the intern will be needed at the Center once a week for about 2-3 hours to support the team with special projects.

Min. Age: 18+
