Volunteer UX Writing Manager

We are looking for a volunteer UX Writing Manager to lead a team of 4 UX writers / content designers to create compelling user interfaces for Oppia's educational platform that aims to make high-quality basic education accessible for everyone. Responsibilities include providing constructive feedback and mentorship on writing microcopy, content audits, content strategy and content style guides, organizing meetings to collaborate with project members, breaking down tasks, and coordinating timelines to meet due dates. The role would include recruiting and vetting additional UX writers as volunteers for Oppia where necessary.

The UX Writing Manager would also collaborate closely with and be onboarded by the other current volunteer UX Writing and Design Manager(s).

The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve.

Even before COVID-19, students around the world were facing difficulties accessing quality education due to conflict, discrimination, lack of teacher training, and more. However, with COVID-19 forcing everyone to stay quarantined in their own homes, students now more than ever need access to free, quality education to ensure that they can continue to learn even if they cannot attend school.

What our UX Writing Managers contribute

In general, our UX Writing volunteers work closely with Oppia's design and development team to collaborate and iterate on mocks for the developers to implement and bring to users. The UX Writing Manager would be responsible for ensuring that this happens smoothly, so that we can deliver new, high-quality features to our users more quickly.

Please note that, for this role, while UX writing experience would be a plus, the main focus is more on organization and process management. In particular, organizational experience would be very helpful, as well as the ability to put systems in place and streamline processes.
