Late last year, GLMA kicked off a comprehensive project to update and enhance the organization's digital presence and data management system. The new website is set to launch in early February 2023 and the vast majority of content has been migrated to the new website, but there remains a need to review existing content, update the information, and formatting the content overall.

We are seeking a part-time volunteer with basic content management skills and an understanding of LGBTQ+ communities to aid in this process. The new website host is MemberLeap, which makes content management incredibly user friendly, so the majority of the work will consist of reviewing content and suggesting edits. Some basic website management skills would be beneficial as some reformatting is necessary, but MemberLeap's customer service will also be helpful in that regard.

This volunteer role is a great opportunity to make a difference with the organization working to promote LGBTQ+ health equity!

Mission Statement

GLMA is a national organization committed to ensuring health equity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, and equality for LGBTQ+ health professionals in their work and learning environments. To achieve this mission, GLMA utilizes the scientific expertise of its diverse multidisciplinary membership to inform and drive advocacy, education, and research.

Description

GLMA:Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Equality(previously known as the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association) is the world's largest and oldest association of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) healthcare professionals. GLMA was founded in 1981, as the American Association of Physicians for Human Rights, with the mission of ensuring equality in healthcare for LGBTQ individuals and healthcare professionals. Today, there remain many barriers to LGBTQ health equity. The full scope of the LGBTQ health agenda includes breast and cervical cancer, hepatitis, mental health, substance abuse, tobacco use, depression, access to gender-affirming care, and other concerns.

Originally open only to physicians, residents and medical students, in 2002, GLMA expanded its mission and now represents the interests of tens of thousands of LGBTQ health professionals of all kinds, as well as millions of LGBT patients and families. GLMA's membership includes approximately 1,000 member physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, researchers and academics, behavioral health specialists, health profession students and other health professionals.
