As we enter 2023, PHLUSH is seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join our Board of Directors!

PHLUSH is a "knowledge hub" on United States restroom and sanitation issues. We provide education and advocacy support to citizens and government groups looking to expand equitable access to sanitation facilities, reduce the environmental impact of sanitation facilities, and prepare their communities to manage sanitation in the event of an emergency.

Board of Directors Overview

PHLUSH is an all-volunteer organization and has no paid staff. We're currently looking for additional members of our Board of Directors with specific skills to:

  1. Ensure the organization is administered appropriately, and
  2. Help expand our network and financial capacity.

We are seeking individuals with one or more of the following skills:

  1. Identifying potential corporate partnerships or funding opportunities
  2. Grant writing
  3. Non-profit accounting/financial reporting
  4. Volunteer recruitment and management
The Board of Directors' time commitment is approximately 3 hours/month, including one 60-75 minute board meeting per month and assistance with administrative functions, sponsorship/funding research, networking, and any related actions that follow. Our board members are able to explore a variety of topics within the realm of sanitation, which allows for a broad set of skills and expertise with which to learn from one another. We are eager to welcome new members to our team that offer organizational knowledge and are interested in learning more about sanitation access around the country and world. Please email board@phlush.org if you are interested in this opportunity or have any questions. We look forward to meeting you!

Location:

1240 W SIMS WAY, PORT TOWNSEND, WA 98368, US

Mission Statement

Through education and advocacy, PHLUSH helps local governments and citizen groups to provide equitable public restroom availability and to prepare for a pipe-breaking seismic event with appropriate ecological toilet systems.

Description

PHLUSH began in 2005 when it recognized the need for better restroom access in Portland. Since then, it has assisted in the development of the Portland Loo, advocated successfully for more gender-neutral facilities, pushed for the eventual adoption of the twin bucket system in case of an emergency that destroys sewer infrastructure, and many other sanitation related achievements. PHLUSH has an advocate network that expands nationwide and is one of only a handful of organizations in America advocating for better public sanitation.
