Join our volunteer advocacy team to be a voice for those impacted by Alzheimer's and dementia!

The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia - by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

With help from volunteer advocates like you, we've passed critical legislation and increased federal research funding for Alzheimer's seven-fold since 2011. But our work isn’t done and we need dedicated volunteers like you to build on this success in Congress and in our state capital. We’ll train you to advocate in a variety of ways, some of which take just an hour or two every few months. Whatever your experience and availability, we’re eager to have you on our advocacy team!

Alzheimer's State Champions: cultivate multifaceted, year-round relationships with their state legislators.

Alzheimer's Ambassadors: develop deep, one-to-one relationships with their Member of Congress.

Alzheimer's Congressional Team Members: bring their own unique stories, relationships and skills to complement the work of an Ambassador.

Requirements: A willingness to share your personal experience with Alzheimer's or other dementia with elected officials and others! Statistics simply aren’t enough; it takes authentic, deeply felt, one-to-one communication from constituents like you to move the hearts and minds of our elected representatives. We will show you how to tell your personal story in ways that build bridges and create positive change through specific advocacy tactics.

What Do Advocacy Volunteers Do? Advocates help advance Alzheimer's research, care and support by:

1. Cultivating positive relationships with their Member of Congress, state legislators and staff.

2. Meeting with their legislators in the district several times per year; while physical distancing is in place, meetings are being held by phone and video.

3. Proactively taking steps to interact with their legislators about Alzheimer’s throughout the year by attending events, writing personal letters and emails, writing letters to the editor or interacting on social media.

4. Reporting all legislative interactions on our advocacy website, www.alzimpact.org.

5. Participating in regular meetings (currently being held by video) to share information and coordinate activities with Alzheimer's Association staff and other advocacy volunteers in your area.

6. All advocates are encouraged to attend our annual Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento and our National Advocacy Forum in Washington, DC in the spring. Ambassadors are expected to attend the Advocacy Forum and State Champions are expected to attend State Advocacy Day. To learn more about the Forum, visit www.alz.org/forum.

Thank you for your interest in helping to create a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia!

Mission Statement

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Our mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision, A world without Alzheimer's disease.

Description

We provide programs and support services for patients, families, caregivers, and others in the San Francisco Bay Area affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Outside the federal government, the Alzheimer's Association is the largest research funder in the country and offers advocacy opportunities to make public policy change.

At the Alzheimer's Association, diversity and inclusion are vital to our mission. The Association leads strategic initiatives to support diversity and a culture of inclusivity. These strategic initiatives also strengthen outreach to all populations, providing communities with resources and support to address the Alzheimer’s crisis. By partnering with organizations locally and nationally to advance diversity and inclusion, the Association can broaden its reach in all communities.
