Horizons at San Francisco Friends School is looking for Highschool volunteers to help us make a difference in the academic trajectory of public school students in San Francisco. We strive to provide joyful academic and enrichment experiences year-round that build on the strength and talents of our students. Our students range from 3rd through 8th grade and attend one of three schools here in the Mission neighborhood. As part of Horizons, students attend a 6 week program every summer to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. Once the school year arrives we try to support them in a variety of ways including offering tutoring.

As a tutoring volunteer you will sign up to meet with a student in a minimum of 30 minute sessions per week to help them review homework, practice core subjects and skills, and prepare for upcoming tests and assessments. Tutors and Students meet virtually on Zoom at a predetermined time; each tutor will be paired 1 or 2 students , depending on their availability. Tutors are asked to commit to at least 10 weeks of tutoring and ensure that they are communicating with either Horizons staff or students' families about scheduling conflicts and needs. As a Horizons tutor you will attend a tutor training orientation to learn more about Horizons and prepare for your tutoring experience. In addition to the training session we ask that our tutors check in with Horizons staff regularly to ensure that tutors and students are feeling supported. We look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with high quality tutoring and would love to tell you more about the opportunity if you are interested.

Applications Due as soon as possible; please fill out the signup sheet linked above
