Mission Statement
Standing for the Kansas City Vibrating Internal Thyroarytenoids, KC VITAs is a group of professional singers with the mission to promote the continued creation and performance of "contemporary-classical" vocal music. The choir is committed to performing new music, benefitting composers and performers alike. The mission of KC VITAs is not only to perform music in fine detail using the best musicians available; but to present work from underrepresented and marginalized composers of diverse backgrounds.
Description
It is the hope and the goal of KC VITAs that through our performances we might encourage new and established composers nationwide to continue their contributions to the genre of contemporary classical vocal music. As the organization grows in numbers and acclaim, KC VITAs continues to add new and innovative musical performances to the rich culture of Kansas City's arts community, keeping admission at low cost and always free for students. The 2021 performance season included five performances. Each season we offer around four programs carefully curated from music selected by the Artistic Director and the Composers in Residence to revolve around different themes. Each program theme, while a-political, is relevant to the challenges we face as a united community of persons trying to make sense of a world that changes minute by minute.
