Animal Welfare Association is seeking a passionate and charismatic intern to support our expanding Education department in its mission to teach all ages to understand and care for animals by fostering compassion and respect. This internship will provide hands-on experience in informal education and public programs, while giving students an alternate perspective on animal focused careers. You will create engaging and innovative educational materials and facilitate events to educate the public on topics such as pet care, animal handling safety, and overpopulation. Interns will have the ability to leave their mark on AWA by creating their own program or strategic project in an area of interest.

You should have strong interpersonal skills, and major or have a demonstrated interest in Animal Science, Education, Museum Studies or similar. Ideal candidates will have experience in customer service and be comfortable with public speaking. You will report to our Education Coordinator and must work both independently and collaboratively with Development, Behavior, and Shelter Services departments.

Candidates should email their resume and availability to RachelR@awanj.org. Applications will be accepted at any time and positions will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is selected. Interns must complete 200 hours in 6 months or less, with flexible scheduling including occasional nights and weekends. This is an unpaid opportunity with no promise of employment at the conclusion of the internship. However, as AWA continues to expand, all resumes will be kept on file. We are happy to adhere to school guidelines to ensure course credit.
