Position: Military Caseworker (Intern)

Length of Appointment: Academic Semester, Academic Year or Summer (12 weeks)

Time Commitment: Minimum 150 hours (10-15 hours/week)

Location: Concord, NH, Burlington, VT, Portland, ME and/or Remote

Project summary: This internship will provide the participant with a comprehensive view of the American Red Cross and its humanitarian services in the Northern New England Region (NNE). The participant’s primary focus will be supporting the NNE Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Hero Care Network casework services and assisting with managing external resources and community partnerships within SAF. The project goals will be to establish overall program improvements in SAF casework, and establish and strengthen community partnerships and resource development across the NNE Region. Together with the internship supervisor, the intern will identify the best casework practices, establish casework schedules, assist with onboarding and training checklists and further provide information and resources to volunteer caseworkers. Performing this project will help identify needed areas of improvement with SAF services and will ultimately help implement advances for lasting strategic improvements. This project will emphasize strategic outreach to military and veteran services throughout NNE using strong communication and network-building skills; sensitivity to and understanding of key players; the willingness to learn and connect with volunteers, communities, and partners; and an ability to document the process and outcomes. Training will be provided, but an aptitude for leadership, community outreach, and computer-based reporting is a must.

Qualifications: · Excellent oral and written communication skills · Interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively to people of diverse backgrounds · Knowledge of group dynamics, customer maintenance techniques, negotiation skills, and the ability to effectively implement programs is preferred · Good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple and continuously evolving priorities · Ability to effectively communicate and represent Red Cross mission and activities in a positive manner · Other Skills: Intermediate proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
