Mission Statement

Our Mission

Have you ever been asked one of the
following questions .......

"What is "Destination ImagiNation"?

"What does Destination ImagiNation (DI) teach?"

Putting words on paper that defines "Destination ImagiNation" has been a real challenge, but the struggle has helped the Board of Trustees (BoT) establish a common vision for the Program.

The Board has developed a vision statement to help define who we are and where we are heading. It's written much like an Instant Challenge, in that it's "open ended". This allows the vision statement to give us a sense of direction without dictating "solutions" .... to truly make everything possible with DI!

We would like to share this vision with you:

Vision

Destination ImagiNation, Inc. seeks to be the world's foremost non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting three critical life skills among learners at all levels: Creativity, Teamwork, and Problem-Solving. These three life skills form the core of our organization's value system.

We strive to encourage, teach, and celebrate Creativity in our Global Community. We will develop programs that provide a positive and fun environment for participants to explore their own unlimited Creativity and to take Creative risks, and we will recognize outstanding Creativity in our programs and in our world. We will provide parents, educators, and others with tools for encouraging and developing Creativity in their children and in themselves. We will work to promote the value of Creativity in all facets of the community. We will utilize our own Creativity within our organization.

We believe that Teamwork is necessary for success in our world, and that people working as a Team can achieve extraordinary things. We will design programs that encourage students and adults to work productively as Teams, and we will recognize Team accomplishments. We will develop tools to assist parents, educators, and others in promoting the Teamwork value among our children. Our members and volunteers are our Team, and we welcome their participation in developing our organization. Both in our organization and in our programs, our Teams will embrace cooperation and mutual respect in all their activities.

We believe that our world requires successful Problem-Solving strategies, thus we will develop Problem-Solving skills among children and adults who participate in our programs. We will celebrate the Problem-Solving process and the accomplishments of our members and participants, and we will recognize those who demonstrate outstanding achievement in Problem-Solving. We will view our organizational challenges as opportunities to utilize our own Problem-Solving skills and strategies, and we will continually strive to improve those skills and strategies within our organization.

Up to seven participants work together as a team for eight to twelve weeks to create their solution to a Team Challenge, which can have a focus that is theatrical, structural, improvisational, scientific or technical. Teams also learn and practice creative quick-thinking skills for the Instant Challenge portion of the program.
