ORGANIZATION: Golden Gate Fields Cats

  • 5 people are interested

We are looking for an animal lover who will be there rain or shine to feed, water and clean out cat feeding stations in a barn environment. There are 10 feeding stations in various outdoor locations. It can be muddy with uneven terrain, but it's a fascinating environment not many people get to see. This position is for a responsible, dedicated person - these cats depend on us for food and care.
The feeder will not necessarily see or interact with the cats as many are feral, although there are many other animals around. (I usually interact with 2-6 cats on my rounds)
The feeder will be required to have a security check and to be licensed by the racing board to enter the facility, as it is privately owned.
Our current opening is for Wednesdays, not before 10:30 am. It takes about 2 hours to walk the route, cleaning out feeding stations and providing wet and dry food and water. A volunteer will accompany you until you feel confident going solo.

About Golden Gate Fields Cats

Mission Statement

GGF Cats is dedicated to improving the lives of abandoned and unclaimed cats at Golden Gate Fields Racetrack through regular feeding and monitoring, including spay/neuter, veterinary care and re-homing when possible.

Description

Our group was formed 20 years ago in response to an explosion of the cat population, both feral and domestic, within the privately owned stable area of Golden Gate Fields. A need was seen to provide spay/neuter to these cats to control the size of the population. We have successfully kept the population in check by monitoring via feeding at 10 established feeding stations on a daily basis, which allows us to step in quickly when spay/neuter or other veterinary needs are required.
